A hybrid variant of the coronavirus, made up of the Indian and English varieties, has been detected in Vietnam, spreading much more rapidly through the air than the others, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long has announced, according to the Guardian.
This variant, the minister stressed, is responsible for the new wave of infections in the country that began about a month ago, which has so far seen 3,595 new cases in 33 cities and provinces.
So far, Vietnam has detected seven variants of the virus, including South African, British and Indian variants. According to Johns Hopkins University counts, 6,713 cases have been recorded in the country since the start of the pandemic, including 47 deaths.
