“We are working closely with our Italian colleagues to conclude a bilateral cooperation agreement between the UK and Italy before the end of the year”. This was announced by the British Ambassador to Italy, Jill Morris, during a hearing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Morris went on to say that “there will be no more such cases” in reference to the group of European citizens, including Italians, who were detained in immigration centres and then deported after attempting to enter the UK for work without the necessary visa.
‘This will be the first time of an agreement where we consolidate our relationship, our collaboration, the dialogues that we have launched and then create a structure together to deepen our relationship for the benefit of all our citizens after 2021 and into the future,’ Morris continued. “I have no doubt that in the future Italy and the UK will remain allies and friends. We are two countries that have the opportunity and the responsibility, not only in this presidential year, to lead the international community towards a more prosperous, more resilient, more sustainable and more inclusive future,” she concluded.
UK – Italia, Morris: “Entro l’anno accordo bilaterale”
“Stiamo lavorando strettamente con i nostri colleghi italiani per concludere prima della fine dell’anno un accordo di cooperazione bilaterale, tra il Regno Unito e l’Italia”. Lo ha annunciato l‘ambasciatrice britannica in Italia, Jill Morris, durante l’audizione alla commissione Esteri della Camera.
Morris ha poi detto che “non ci saranno più casi del genere” in riferimento al gruppo di cittadini europei, compresi italiani, trattenuti nei centri per l’immigrazione e poi rimpatriati dopo aver tentato di entrare nel Regno Unito per lavoro senza il visto necessario.
“Sarà la prima volta di un accordo in cui consolidiamo i nostri rapporti, la nostra collaborazione, i dialoghi che abbiamo lanciato e poi creiamo insieme una struttura per approfondire i nostri rapporti per il bene di tutti i nostri cittadini dopo il 2021 e nel futuro”, ha proseguito Morris. “Non ho alcun dubbio che nel futuro l’Italia e il Regno Unito rimarranno alleati e amici. Siamo due Paesi che hanno la possibilità e la responsabilità, non solo in quest’anno di presidenze, di guidare la comunità internazionale verso un futuro più prospero, più resiliente, più sostenibile e più inclusivo”, ha concluso.
