The organisers of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have sold 4.8 million tickets, equivalent to about 42% of the capacity of the sports facilities, and if public participation in the events is confirmed they expect an average of 225,000 spectators per day.
The organisers together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), having already announced in March that foreign tourists would be banned, reserved the right to decide on local spectators by the end of this month. At a press conference, the operations director of the local organising committee, Hidemasa Nakamura, said that 70% of the tickets sold for the competitions to be held in Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures of Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama had been allocated to residents of the relevant areas.
With 40 days to go before the opening ceremony of the Games, a state of emergency has been in force in Tokyo since the end of April, until 20 June, in an attempt to reduce the number of Covid infections. Since the start of the pandemic, the capital has recorded 165,600 infections with 2,140 confirmed deaths.

Gli organizzatori delle Olimpiadi e le Paralimpiadi di Tokyo hanno venduto 4,8 milioni di biglietti, equivalenti a circa il 42% della capacità degli impianti sportivi, e se la partecipazione del pubblico agli eventi dovesse essere confermata si attendono una media di 225mila spettatori al giorno. Gli organizzatori assieme al Comitato olimpico internazionale (Cio), dopo aver già annunciato in marzo il divieto di ingresso per i turisti stranieri, si sono riservati il diritto di decidere sugli spettatori locali entro la fine di questo mese.
In una conferenza stampa il direttore operativo del comitato organizzatore locale, Hidemasa Nakamura, ha detto che il 70% dei biglietti venduti per le gare che si svolgeranno a Tokyo e nelle prefetture circostanti di Chiba, Kanagawa e Saitama, sono stati assegnati a residenti delle relative aree.
