Sydney tightens containment, stops non-essential shops

Confinement is being tightened in Sydney, where from Saturday all non-essential shops will have to remain closed and residents in the neighbourhoods most affected by Covid-19, in the South West of the city, will have to stay indoors. This was announced by the Premier of the Australian state of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian.

Covid, US researcher finds first deleted virus sequences

New twist in the search for the origins of SarsCov2: an American researcher, Jesse Bloom of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, has identified data containing sequences of the SarsCov2 virus dating back to the beginning of the epidemic in Wuhan, deliberately removed from the archive of the sequences of the American National Institute of Health.

WHO, Indian variant detected in at least 17 countries

The so-called Indian variant of the Covid-19 virus has been sequenced in at least 17 countries worldwide, including Italy, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) in its weekly pandemic bulletin. The mutation of the virus that is scourging India with a hitherto unknown impetus, also known as variant B.1.617, has been detected in over 1,200 sequences uploaded to the international Gisaid database, the WHO recalls.
