WHO, Indian variant detected in at least 17 countries
The so-called Indian variant of the Covid-19 virus has been sequenced in at least 17 countries worldwide, including Italy, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) in its weekly pandemic bulletin. The mutation of the virus that is scourging India with a hitherto unknown impetus, also known as variant B.1.617, has been detected in over 1,200 sequences uploaded to the international Gisaid database, the WHO recalls.
