For the first time in the 144-year history of the Washington Post, a woman has been appointed as editor-in-chief. Sally Buzbee of the Associated Press took over from Martin Baron, who retired at the end of February.
Buzbee, currently the executive editor and vice-president of the AP, will take over a 1,000-strong editorial staff in June. The appointment joins recent appointments of women at the helm of prestigious publications, including a month ago Italy’s Alessandra Galloni, the first woman to head Reuters.

Per la prima volta nei 144 anni di storia del Washington Post una donna è stata chiamata alla direzione del giornale. Sally Buzbee dell’Associated Press ha preso il posto di Martin Baron che alla fine di febbraio è andato in pensione.
Buzbee, attualmente direttore esecutivo e vicepresidente dell’Ap, prenderà la guida di una redazione di un migliaio di persone in giugno. La nomina si aggiunge a quelle recenti di donne che hanno assunto il timone di testate prestigiose, tra queste un mese fa l’italiana Alessandra Galloni, prima donna a capo della Reuters.
