Today’s 95th birthday is a day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth, who is still in the saddle on the British throne but has been tried by the death 10 days ago of the almost centenarian Prince Philip, her consort and support for more than seven decades, against a backdrop of loneliness that has never been more evident than in these moments. The anniversary, according to the Kingdom’s media, will be without festivities and without family reunions, also because of the residual precautions of the Covid emergency, although her children and some of her closest family members are taking turns at her side: in particular Princess Anne, her second-born, the wife of the heir to the throne Charles, Camilla, and that of her fourth-born son Edward, Sofia, all of whom have already been vaccinated with at least the first dose.
A message from Boris Johnson, who tweeted that he would like to send his best wishes to the sovereign.
“I would like to send my warmest wishes to Her Majesty the Queen on her 95th birthday. I have always had the highest admiration for Her Majesty and her service to this country and the Commonwealth. I am proud to serve her as Prime Minister”.

Compleanno numero 95 in lutto, oggi, per la regina Elisabetta, sempre in sella sul trono britannico, ma provata dalla morte 10 giorni fa del quasi centenario principe Filippo, suo consorte e sostegno lungo oltre sette decenni, su uno sfondo di solitudine apparso mai così evidente come in questi momenti. La ricorrenza, stando ai media del Regno, sarà senza festeggiamenti e senza riunioni di famiglia, anche a causa delle residue precauzioni dell’emergenza Covid, sebbene al suo fianco si stiano alternando i figli e alcuni familiari più stretti: in particolare la principessa Anna, sua secondogenita, la moglie dell’erede al trono Carlo, Camilla, e quella del quartogenito Edoardo, Sofia, tutte già vaccinate almeno con la prima dose.
Ad anticipare tutti negli auguri alla sovrana è stato frattanto un messaggio trasmesso via Twitter da Boris Johnson.
“Vorrei inviare i miei auguri più calorosi a Sua Maestà la Regina – vi si legge – per il suo 95esimo compleanno. Ho sempre avuto la più alta ammirazione per Sua Maestà e per il suo servizio a questo Paese e al Commonwealth. Sono orgoglioso di servirla come Primo Ministro”.
