Last night, Germany and other governments initially undecided about the European Commission‘s idea of taking AstraZeneca to court sided with the European executive. This is what AGI learns from European diplomatic sources.
The only country that has yet to comment on the Commission’s proposed legal action is Hungary. However, Brussels has given time until the end of this week to allow governments to assess the consequences of joining the Commission’s lawsuit before Belgian courts. European sources therefore do not rule out the possibility that Budapest will give the go-ahead on the same day, which would trigger a unified legal battle across the EU aimed at recovering the 90 million doses that AstraZeneca, according to the EU interpretation of the contract, should have delivered by March in addition to the only 30 million actually supplied to member states.

Ieri notte la Germania e altri Governi inizialmente indecisi sull’idea della Commissione europea di portare AstraZeneca in tribunale si sono schierati dalla parte dell’esecutivo europeo. E’ quanto apprende l’AGI da fonti diplomatiche europee.
L’unico Paese che non si sarebbe ancora espresso in merito all’azione legale proposta dalla Commissione sarebbe l’Ungheria. Bruxelles ha comunque dato tempo fino alla fine della settimana in corso per consentire ai Governi di valutare le conseguenze dell’associazione in giudizio nella causa che intenteràla Commissione di fronte ai giudici belgi. Fonti europee non escludono quindi un ok in giornata anche da parte di Budapest che darebbe il via a una battaglia legale unitaria di tutta l’Ue finalizzata a recuperare i 90 milioni di dosi che AstraZeneca, secondo l’interpretazione Ue del contratto, avrebbe dovuto consegnare entro marzo in aggiunta ai soli 30 milioni effettivamente forniti ai Paesi membri.
